Many of us(if not all) are born with a natural desire to explore. Our levels of exploration may differ on the hows and whys but we still long for stimulus. Some may be more adventurous, while others are satisfied with a Sunday afternoon stroll. We all have different comfort zones and preferences for travel. Some like to drive, some like to walk, some like to fly, and some like to cruise. There are millions of opportunities to wander and live Life Outside.
Every day I am amazed at just how beautiful North America is. Our backyard is exotic. All we have to do is drive a few hundred miles and the terrain will change in drastic ways; from plains to mountains to canyons to deserts to oceans to lakes and so on.
Life Outside is about finding your way into the great outdoors, having an adventure. Life outside of the normal 9 to 5.
“But it costs money.” Don’t let that be the reason you stay inside. There are many ways to travel on a budget. You could even work for your stay. Though I’ve only done this a few times, I thoroughly enjoyed it.
A dear friend of mine has traveled and explored the US and New Zealand through a website called help exchange. She recently wrote a charming book about her New Zealand adventure called “Beth of Fresh Air: New Zealand”. It’s a fun and inspiring read with beautiful pictures and stories. The best part is, it’s only $2.99. Check it out here.
But you can also travel many other ways. The US is full of national forests which provide an amazing opportunity for free camping. It’s called dispersed camping. That’s what I’m doing.
I’m currently in Wyoming staying at a campsite with an incredible view of the Grand Tetons. This morning I woke up, pulled back the curtain, and gazed at the mountains from my bed. The only cost is gas and groceries.
I’m blessed to have friends all over the globe to help me along my way. I’ve also found that if you spend enough time in a coffee shop you will meet the most wonderful people and may even be blessed with a place to stay. I’ll write more about the Bean Broker soon.
Maybe you don’t want to drive far or jump a plane to New Zealand. Have you explored the National Forests near you? Have you went on a local hike? or a scenic drive?
How do you like to wander? and where do you go? We hope to inspire you and encourage you to live Life Outside. To find new and creative ways to wander whether that’s in your own backyard or across the globe.
